Crazy colour & camouflage die-cut

Hi everybody, 

Jill here, and this week I am going crazy with colour...

...creating an explosion of butterflies and camouflaging my message.

I was looking at my Instagram feed the other day and realised I was in dire need of some colour, so that's what inspired today's card.

I used Brusho's to create my background (if you haven't heard of them already - Google/You Tube them - amaaaazing product!), but of course you could use anything; inks, Zig Clean Colour Pens, Watercolour, basically whatever your preferred medium is.  I simply sprinkled them on my background, spritzed with water & POW, an explosion of colour.  I then added a whole load of flicks and splashes using Kuretake Starry Colours & Zig Pens mixed with water.  I coloured a separate piece of card in the same way at the same time and used this piece to cut a load of Waffle Flower Teeny Wings butterflies from.  I also cut a load of the same Teeny Wings from plain white card too.

I then took Lawn Fawn's Scripty Wishes, and die-cut from the front of my card.  I added a layer of foam to the back, and in-laid the whole thing back in.  I wanted my die to remain 'camouflaged' into the background, but I didn't want to lose it completely, so I added a layer of vellum, again cut from the same die, and adhered over the top using Stick-It to give it a different finish to the rest of the card.

I then added my scattering of Teeny Wing butterflies, fluttering out from my die and colour explosion, and adhered them in place.

I white heat embossed 'Happy' from Lawn Fawn's Hello Baby onto black card, cut into a little flag and added to my card front to finish off my sentiment.

I then matted my panel onto black card, mounted the whole thing to a card base, and there you have it.

Otterly in love.

Jill here, and this week I am going 'otterly nuts'...

...for the brand spanking new Otterly Adorable from Mama Elephant.

I love otters, they are one of my particular favourite animals, the way they swim on their backs holding hands...gaaaah!  They are just such beautiful, gorgeous creatures.  So seeing them take centre stage in this new set...oh be still my beating heart!

I started by colouring a few different sheets of vellum using Distress Inks, (I only learnt yesterday this would work.  HOW did I not know?!).  In any case, I coloured my vellum in various blue/greens, and also covered a sheet in white pigment ink.  I then cut them, at varying heights, into waves using the cloud border from Mama Elephant's Landscape Trio Dies, by simply turning the die upside down.

I then cut a frame from a piece of card using Lawn Fawn's Cross Stitched Rectangles and layered up my vellum waves behind.

I stamped out and coloured my favourite image in the set, which is obviously the little guys on their backs, and the little heart also included, then fussy cut everything.

I cut Mama Elephant's Friend word die from a piece of black card adhered to some black foam using Stick it, and began to build my scene. adding the little heart to my sweet swimming otters.

I finished off my sentiment by stamping straight onto the vellum along the bottom of my scene, and clear heat embossing.

I cut the smallest rectangle that makes up my frame, from my card blank to allow the light to shine through, and mounted my panel onto it using foam tape.

I embellished with a scattering of clear sequins and there you have it.

Abstract stencilling.

Jill here, and this week, I'm stretching my stencil patterns...

...and coming up with some pretty abstract results.

I used Hero Arts Triangle Pattern Stencil on both of my cards.  The blue card is on white cardstock, and the red is on kraft.

I taped my card panel down using low-tack tape, then taped my stencil over the top and inked through, (the kraft card is purple, red and white ink, and the blue card is 3 different greeny blues).  Once my first colour was down, (which was just the first one I grabbed for - I didn't over-think the process), I lifted up my stencil up and simply shifted it slightly to a different position, (again, not over-thinking it), just hoping when I lifted the stencil it would reveal something cool, which it did, so I shifted my stencil again, and put a third colour down.

Once my inking was complete, I took Lawn Fawn's Scripty Hugs, and Scripty Cheers, and cut one each from each card.  I cut the same dies from white foam to add dimension to my die-cuts, and in-laid my pieces back into my card.  I then cut another layer from vellum backed with Stick-It adhesive and added that over the top of my die cut to help it stand out from the strong background pattern.  I completed my sentiment using one of those manual label makers I have had for years, but if you don't have one, there are a few different stamp sets from a few different companies, (Mama Elephant Labelled Messages, Altenew Label Love, Neat & Tangled Everyday Labels to name a few, but be sure to go search the store), which will give you the exact same effect.  

The crazy abstract patterns my stencil had created was quite busy enough for me, so, after embellishing with a few black enamel hearts, and mounting onto card bases, I left my cards there.

Flowers, Frills, and Bows...

Jill here, and this week, I've got a little bit of 'chintz' for you...

...full of flowers, frills and bows...

My main panel is made using Mama Elephant's Bloomsies.  A delightful set packed with gorgeous little flowers and sprigs, a ribbon banner and equally delightful sentiments.  I took a load of the different flowers, the ones with more 'open space' to them, stamped them all over a piece of watercolour card, and heat embossed them in white.  I then water coloured each little bloom with different Distress Inks, and washed over the whole of the background.  I then took a piece of vellum, and cut several layers of scalloped borders, (I used a die from my stash but I have linked this one from WPlus9 as it will work every bit as well), so once all lined up and layered on top of each other, it would create this cutesy little frill.  I then added this to my background panel, with a little wrap of ribbon and a sweet neat little bow.  

My banner and sentiment are also from the Bloomsies set, and are stamped onto vellum and heat embossed in silver powder.  I wanted my banner to have some dimension, which can be very tricky when using vellum, so I stamped it out a few extra times and just  used the 'tails' behind to help build it up.  I used Stick-it to adhere my extra tails to the banner, and my banner to the card - it works sooo perfect with vellum as it doesn't show!  Pretty magic really!  I embellished with a scattering of pearls to keep the whole 'chintzy' vibe up, and there you have it.

A wild Ride...

Jill here.  I hope you're all well.

I've got some of the newest release from WPlus9 for you today, and boy oh boy what a killer release it was!

I used the 'Going Places' stamp and matching die sets to make my card.  I'm not sure if it shows well on the pictures, but I added a sneaky little shaker behind the hot air balloon!  

I started by stamping out my elements, and watercolouring them using Distress Ink.  I washed over my background at the same time, to create a pretty sky of pinks and blues.  I then took the matching die set, and cut out my pieces, cutting the balloon from my background at the same time.  I only needed to cut the balloon to create my little shaker window, so inlaid the rest back in.  I covered my window in acetate, filled with some beautiful Neat and Tangled sequins, and sealed up.  I cut a couple of layers of clouds using Mama Elephant's 'Landscape Trio die', one layer from white card, and one layer from vellum.  I then put all my pieces together and built up my scene.  I stamped my sentiment onto vellum and adhered using 'Stick-it' (I can't stop sticking vellum any, and every, where now I know 'Stick-it' is invisible!).  I matted onto another layer of vellum, and another piece of card I had washed with Distress Ink, then onto a soft grey card base.  I embellished with a couple of black enamel hearts, and there you have it.
